We are very pleased to announce the launch of the new LexisClick website. After 2 years of working very hard on our customer’s websites, we have decided it is time to show our own web presence some love.
Unfortunately we had let our old site slip somewhat and it wasn’t the showcase for our work that it should have been. This needed to change! Over the past couple of weeks the team has worked really hard to revamp our website’s design and get our copy in order. We’ve used it as an opportunity to incorporate our new LexisClick brand identity which we’ll be rolling out over the next few months.
Going forwards we’ll be making sure that our own website is the showcase that it should be and we are looking forward to really making our site a useful resource for our existing customers and potential customers.
We’ll be using the blog to bring our readers some useful tips from the front line of online marketing and the news section of the site to keep you up to date with the latest internet marketing news.
We hope you enjoy it.

Enabling readers to comment on your blog has just become easier, thanks to a new widget from Facebook Connect. Called, simply enough, The Comments Box, it enables anyone with a Facebook account to log on to any supported site with their Facebook details, and leave a comment. This is all done by adding a few lines of code to your website, and could be a vital part of your social media strategy.
While this isn’t really anything new – Google Friend Connect has a similar, widget-based system and there are commenting services such as Disqus – it will help raise awareness of your site
When a user logs in to your site and uses The Comments Box to leave a comment, they are able to post that comment to their profile and share what they have said with their friends, and by using Facebook’s APIs you can access related comments and find out what’s being said about your organisation or products. You can then retrieve these comments and display them as ‘recent comments’ on your site.
The Comments Box also lets people without a Facebook ID, or those who don’t want to use it, to comment on your site.

An interesting Chinese proverb caught my eye from the tab of my tea bag this morning. “Teachers open the door, but you must enter it by yourself.”
This is interesting from two levels. The first is how similar it is to a marketing ‘proverb’ that I heard recently, from Neil Armstrong at Cre8ive Wisdom, I am not sure if I can credit it fully to Neil, but that’s where I heard it first:
“Marketing opens the door to opportunity; sales welcome the opportunities in and close the door behind them.”
Good marketing is of course a lot more than just opening the door to opportunity; however, it is a very good analogy for marketing’s key role and its distinction from sales.
On the other level the use of the tab for an interesting read is a very simple and effective example of marketing’s other role, to reinforce relationships with existing customers. That extra little bit of thought as to how to make the tea bags different, reinforces my relationship with the brand increasing the likelihood that I will buy them again and will be prepared to pay a bit extra for them. Plus the fact that I enjoy the teabags and no other company makes them, will probably help as well…
Its good to know that an extra little bit of marketing effort is appreciated.
If you are interested the tea bags are Good Earth Organic White Tea with citrus. It’s the first time I’ve bought them so it’ll be interesting to see what other proverbs they have in store.

Anyone who’s serious about online marketing needs to know a thing or two about Search Engine Optimisation. Even, it emerges, the Queen. In a recent report for The Daily Telegraph, Julian Sambles, the Telegraph’s Head of Audience, conducted a review of how well the Queen’s new website would rank on search engines.
You may well think that for an institution as important as the Monarchy, they would be pretty spot on with their SEO. However, as Julian discovered, this was far from the truth. He found there were several problems with the site’s SEO (including, quite shockingly, not including the phrase “Queen Elizabeth” in the homepage’s keywords). He goes on to list the six key SEO problems with www.royal.gov.uk, including problems with the use of title tags and url structure.
This article got me thinking that it should be important reminder to any business with an online presence that they need to make sure their website is working in the best possible way for them. It’s imperative to understand the application of SEO correctly, as it is one of the most cost-effective elements of marketing strategy for many companies.

Search Engine Optimisation

YouTube could be the next SEO opportunity, as Google are planning the Google Universal Search application. This clever application will begin to be integrated directly into the regular Google search results and will search all of the Google search application and return the most relevant results.
This means that if you have a high quality video that ranks well in YouTube, you’ll have a high chance that the video will be feature in the regular Google search results.
If you haven’t done so already, now would probably be the time to test your popular search terms in Google. A case in point is searching on internet marketing news. Internet marketing news returns 27,600,000 results on Google, whereas the same search on YouTube only returns 5,270. With the differences in those results which do you think will give you the best chances to get on the first page?
Video appears to be an opportunity ripe for the picking and with YouTube beating both Yahoo and MSN in the traffic figures, it could be seen as the second search engine. If you are willing to go out there and make high quality video content for your market place it could provide you with the opportunity to get one step ahead of your competition.
